I was personally sick of my huge right-click context menu that has been getting larger and larger with every program I install. So I endeavoured to clear out all the crap from my right-click menu by some simple registry editing.
The following trick should work and has been tested on Windows 7, Vista and XP.
Note: Do not mess around with your registry unless you know what you’re doing. Deleting or editing the wrong things may cause serious harm to your system.
Here’s how to do it:
1) Open up the registry editor. To do this either type regedit into the Start search or open Run and type regedit
2) In the side navigation bar, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > * > shellx > ContextMenuHandlers. It should bring up a list of programs that appear in the right-click context menu for all file types. Unfortunately some things will be missing; it’s unclear how to find these ones.
3) Delete the keys you don’t want. If you want to have the option of putting them back in, you can export them instead. If you don’t export them you’ll need to reinstall the program to get the keys back.
4) The right-click context menu should have changed as soon as you deleted/exported the keys. Once you’ve finished, close the Registry Editor
Enjoy a much smaller and cleaned up right-click context menu.
