ATI Catalyst 10.8 driver released

As per every month, ATI has released a new Catalyst driver for their range of graphics cards. Version 10.8 brings with it full OpenGL ES 2.0 support for Windows XP and up as well as Linux, anti-aliasing for StarCraft II and performance improvements for Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and Stormrise. The usual amount of bugs have also been fixed.

Interestingly enough, in these new drivers from AMD a number of code names for as many as 35 unreleased ATI graphics cards have been uncovered. These code names are for the upcoming Radeon HD 6000 Series GPUs (codenamed “Southern Islands”), and include a number of related codes including Cayman, Antilles, Blackcomb, Barts, Whistler, Onega, Turks, Seymour, Caicos, and Caspian.

Nvidia GeForce 258.96 WHQL drivers out

A few days ago we saw the release of the latest and greatest Nvidia GeForce drivers straight from the Nvidia labs with a WHQL certificate. The 258.96 drivers released on July 19 come with support for the new GeForce GTX 460 as well as Nvidia 3D Vision Surround if you have a capable set-up. Apart from those new features there are the usual bug fixes and game performance improvements, listed below in the release highlights.

ATI Catalyst 10.6 driver released

Close to the release of the Nvidia drivers for this month, ATI has released an update to their drivers for the month of June. The update brings support for GPU acceleration in Flash Player 10.1, a few video playback enhancements and support for OpenGL 4.0 and 3.3. 2D acceleration has also been improved for Linux users. Nvidia 257.21 WHQL drivers outed

It’s that driver time of the month at Nvidia HQ and today marks the release of the 257.21 WHQL drivers for those with an Nvidia GeForce/ION GPU in their system. While the update is mainly to improve performance of the GTX 400 series cards (and also adding OpenGL 4.0 support for the cards), there are also a few other upgrades for non-400 series users. ATI Catalyst 10.5 drivers released

ATI Catalyst is back this month with another driver release for May: 10.5. Apart from the usual bug fixes, ATI has added support for 120 Hz monitors for Radeon 3000 and 4000 series cards. Numerous games have also received updates including Alien vs. Predator, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Mass Effect 2, Resident Evil 5, Splinter Cell Conviction and more. ATI has pumped out their Catalyst drivers for this month kinda late, which is unusual but good all the same. The new drivers – 10.4 – add support for 5.1 channel H.264 playback through all players as well as transcoding improvements and new formats supported. The usual amount of bugs fixes and performance updates are also packed into this release. The latest WHQL drivers from Nvidia, 197.45, have just been released for all those with a Nvidia 6-series card and above – except the GTX 400 series who still have to use the 197.41 release. These new drivers bring support for OpenGL 4.0 for all graphics cards, adds support for the new GPU-accelerated features in Adobe CS5 products, adds MotionDSP’s videos software vReveal and several other bug fixes and improvements. Nvidia 197.41 drivers out now for GTX 400s

If you’re going to be an early purchaser of a new Nvidia GTX 400 series graphics card then you’ll be happy to know that new WHQL certified drivers are out now for you to use when your GPU arrives. This driver update is just for GeForce GTX 470 and GeForce GTX 480 graphics cards, so if you have an earlier generation card you’ll have to stick with the earlier 197.13 drivers; in the future drivers for Fermi cards and older series cards will probably be released in the same package.

When you get your Fermi GPU, or if you are still using a driver earlier than 197.13, go to the Nvidia website to download your drivers. Release notes for the 197.41 drivers are below.

After the last Nvidia graphics card drivers, 196.75, caused a multitude of fan issues for card owners, Nvidia has updated their drivers to fix this issue. Apart from fixing the fan issue, the Nvidia 197.13 GPU drivers add pretty much the same things as the 196.75 release. This includes support for the Next Generation ION GPU, OEM GT 300 series cards, and the latest wave of game performance and SLI support updates.

ATI Catalyst 10.3 driver released

ATI has pumped out another iteration of their Catalyst graphics card drivers for March – 10.3. ATI Catalyst 10.3 comes loaded with new features for those with Eyefinity-supporting cards, including bezel compensation and multiple Eyefinity groups. Also on the list of new features is support for stereoscopic 3D glasses at 120 Hz so 3rd party vendor’s glasses will work.
