Thermaltake Level 10

One of the coolest cases I’ve ever seen, the BMW-designed Thermaltake Level 10, is getting a nice fit out from iBUYPOWER. The OEM will chuck into the case an Asus P6T motherboard loaded with a Core i7-920 and 6GB of DDR3-1333 RAM along with a 2GB Nvidia GTX 285. You also get a 128GB Kingston SSD for boot and 1TB HDD for storage and a DVD drive which is upgradeable to a Blu-ray drive. All of that, plus the awesome Level 10 case, starts at US$2,499 from iBUYPOWER right now.

Apple updates the Mac Pro

By Tim Schiesser December 5th, 2009

Mac Pro

The most expensive of the Mac desktop computers, the Mac Pro, has got an upgrade, if you choose so. If you feel that the 2.93Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor isn’t enough for you, you can upgrade that to a 3.33GHz Xeon for only US$1,200 on top of the base price. Also, if you feel like upping your storage, you can upgrade the 1TB hard drive to a 2TB for just US$350. Also, you can fill the other four hard drive bays with 2TB HDDs for US$550 a hard drive.

Unfortunately these options are rather expensive, considering the base price for the Mac Pro is US$2,499 for a 2.66GHz Xeon, 3GB of DDR3, a 640GB hard drive and a single GeForce GT 120 graphics card. Chuck in the 3.33Ghz Xeon and one 2TB hard drive and the price goes up to US$4,049, or you can buy the best Mac Pro available with all the upgrades and extras for just US$16,845.90

CompuLab fit-PC2i

The fit-PC2i is the most feature-filled mini desktop to come from CompuLab yet. The fit-PC2i measures just 10.1cm x 11.4cm x 2.7cm and weighs just 369 grams and still manages to pack impressive specifications. Inside the box is an Atom Z5xx CPU, (up to) 2GB of DDR2 RAM, WiFi and audio, four USB 2.0 ports and a slot for your 2.5″ hard drive. The whole computer sucks 8W of power in full load, and runs Windows 7 if you choose so. It’ll be available next month for your consuming.

Stealth’s LPC-395F Mini PC is caged

By Tim Schiesser November 9th, 2009

Stealth LPC-395 Mini PC

If you’re looking for a tough and small computer, I suggest you look no further than the Stealth LPC-395F Mini PC. It’s basically a tiny nettop in a rugged cage that measures 16.6cm x 15.7cm x 4.8cm. The case features nice front loading bays for your flash media and 2.5″ hard drives, and it also looks like it carries mounting holes in case you want to screw the PC to any surfaces.

Under the hood the LPC-395F Mini PC packs the standard nettop 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 in a fanless configuration, as well as up to 2GB of RAM. Connectivity wise the PC comes with four USB 2.0 ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, a DVI port and two RS232 serial ports and built-in WiFi. You also have a variety of operating systems to choose from, including Windows XP and Vista (unfortunately no Windows 7) as well as Ubuntu 9.04. The rugged PC is available now and starts from US$795.

1.1 teraFLOPS come with Asustek “supercomputer”

By Tim Schiesser October 28th, 2009

Asustek ESC 1000

It’s all about power in this “supercomputer” from Asustek. The ESC 1000 is a desktop-sized supercomputer that is said to push out 1.1 teraFLOPS, and it manages this with the help of 4 Nvidia workstation graphics cards. The ESC 1000 packs a 3.33GHz Intel Xeon W3580, alongside 24GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, and a 500GB hard drive (a bit small for a machine this powerful). The real power-kickers are the 4 workstation graphics cards: three Nvidia Tesla C1060s and a Quadro FX 5800 for a total of 16GB of VRAM.

The company spokesperson said that the machine is ready to ship out now, but refrained from giving a launch date and price. However, as the parts to this machine cost around the US$10,000 mark, we expect you’re going to have to fork out quite a bit of money to enjoy this powerful beast. But, then again, this isn’t your ordinary desktop computer.

The new Apple computer range

By Tim Schiesser October 21st, 2009

Apple iMac

Apple chose the perfect time to release new products – just before the release of Windows 7 tomorrow. Apple has released a bunch of new products today for the “holiday season” – a new range of iMacs, MacBooks and Mac Minis and also updated the Mighty Mouse (now know as the Magic Mouse) and the Apple Remote.

First off is the new iMac range (pictured above) which look much closer to the LED Cinema Displays as expected. While there still is no blu-ray in these new iMacs, we do see a nice spec bump. The new desktops come with either 21.5″ (1920×1080) or 27″ (2560×1440) 16:9 widescreen displays in the same aluminium enclosures. What really is great to see though is the inclusion of Intel’s Core i5 and i7 range in the top end models.

Pine Trail Atom D510 seen in nettop

By Tim Schiesser October 16th, 2009

Atom D510 Nettop

Remember how Intel said that its new Pine Trail Atom processors were on schedule for this year back in July? Looks like they were right; we are now seeing a Chinese nettop with the new Intel Atom D510 processor on the inside, packing two-cores at 1.66GHz. The KND K1850 is an all-in-one nettop with a nice 18.6″ display and although it packs the new Pine Trail CPU, I doubt it will be leaving China any time soon

Other specs include 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, built in DVD drive, WiFi and a 3-in-1 card reader. Although this nettop probably isn’t going to leave China, it is expected that soon major manufacturers such as Dell, HP, Acer and Lenovo will release their line of Pine Trail nettops and netbooks, breaking the long reign that the Atom N270 and N280 has had on the market.

New iMacs rumoured for an imminent release

By Tim Schiesser September 25th, 2009

iMac Rumoured New

AppleInsider, the usual source for all sorts of Mac related rumours, has come out with a new rumour about the iMac line-up. They are claiming that Apple has finalised some new iMacs up to the stage where they have been rolling of the Taiwanese production lines for a couple of weeks now.

The new Macs are rumoured to be thinner, looking more like it’s range of LED Cinema Displays, and (finally, thank God) cheaper for us to buy. Also on the list of new features could be a previously rumoured Blu-ray drive, as well as some sort of audio enhancement to make the new iMacs the “most versatile ever.” No word on a release date for these or any other sort of details – it’s all rumours for now

CyberPower Gamer Extreme 5000

Some of the higher-end systems also come with liquid cooling.

The systems start at US$725 for an i5-750 and a 9500GT and go all the way up to US$1805 for an i7-870, GTX 285 and liquid cooling. All the systems, if purchased now, come with Windows Vista with a free Windows 7 upgrade coupon. Grab the systems now if you like from CyberPower’s website

Medion’s appealing 24″ touchscreen all-in-one

By Tim Schiesser August 30th, 2009

Medion X9613 AIO

Medion is a brand you don’t often hear about (but I do often see down at the local Aldi supermarket); they produce cheap computers and electronics. It seems like they’ve released a pretty nice multitouch suppporting X9613 all-in-one PC.

It comes with a nice and large 24″ touchscreen panel along with another small SlideShow screen in amongst the media buttons along the bottom and the large volume knob. The internals are packing a Core 2 Quad Q9000 mobile CPU at 2.0 GHz and a GT240M GPU which should easily be able to play any sort of media you want. The prices for the X9613 range from €1,499 to €1,900 – I doubt I’ll be seeing this one at my local Aldi.
