Ahead of a release next week, more info regarding Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 cards have been revealed. According to the sources, the GTX 480 will come loaded with 480 shader processors (SPs), a core clock speed of 700 MHz along with a shader clock of 1,401 MHz. The 480 will also come with 1.5 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit interface along with a 1,848 MHz clock speed.

The card itself will feature a protruding heatpipe design (with the reference cooler as seen above) and will be around 26cm long – shorter than the HD 5870 by ~2cm. The GTX 480 will come with a 250W TDP along with a 6+8pin PICe power connector to power the card. The outputs from the card will be two DVI ports plus a mini-HDMI port. The GTX 480 will launch with a price tag of US$499, or around US$80 more than a HD 5870.

The GTX 470 on the other hand will feature 488 shader processors, a core clock of 607 MHz with a shader clock of 1,215 MHz. The memory on the card will be 1280 MB of GDDR5 clocked at 1,674 MHz with a 320-bit memory interface. The GTX 470 will be shorter than the GTX 480 but will still carry the same two DVI ports plus a mini-HDMI port. Chances are the GTX 470 will need a 6+6pin PCIe power connector for a 225W rated TDP. The 470 will debut for US$349, or around US$30 more than the HD 5850.

Internal benchmarks place the GTX 480 and GTX 470 around 5-10% faster than their rivals – the HD 5870 and HD 5850 respectively. Apparently these card do not fully utilise the power of the GF-100, so a card more powerful than the GTX 480 may be coming in the future. However, when these cards are actually released on March 26 we will be able to confirm if all this info is true or not, so just keep waiting.
