Matrox, not a big name in the consumer market these days, has decided to make and release a single graphics card capable of powering eight displays at once. The Matrox M9188 is a single-slot, PCI-E 16x graphics card that has 8 ports on it capable of powering eight DisplayPort or DVI displays from the card. Add in a second M9188 and you’ve suddenly got 16 displays from the one computer.
The graphics card comes with 2GB of memory for all your 8-monitor applications and has support for most Microsoft Windows operating systems (including Windows 7) as well as Linux. Unfortunately, the downside to these cards is the price tag: US$1,995 for a single card (and a whopping US$3,990 if you want 16 displays from 2 cards). Putting the price aside though, it should give ATI’s Eyefinity technology some good competition.

Yay for 8 monitor applications
